My transition to a ballooning dork began when I was a very young child in Longview Texas and I was sitting on the back of my grandfather’s truck watching the Great Texas Balloon Race at the Longview Mall. Then every year I would chase balloons around Longview and drag my parents out to the balloon races. Sometimes arriving out to the field as the balloon trucks were arriving for their briefing. I starting crewing in college and have been chasing balloons for about 14 years. My wife and I hope to purchase our first balloon within the next couple of years.
Adam,
I don't believe we have met. I fly up around McKinney and Frisco with my friends Bill Broker and Michael Marx. My balloon is pictured at left. Where do you guys live and are you taking lessons or crewing with someone?
I do remember you! I just didn't recognize you from the photo. I won't fly in Highland Village anymore. With the city of Highland Village and now Corinth being virtually built out, landing sites have become few and far between. The weather is also always very hot on that weekend in August so it is really not my idea of fun. We have started attending an event in Denver the week after HV. We are leaving next Friday for Colorado to spend a week in Estes Park cooling off prior to the event. If you ever want to come out and crew let me know. We would love to have you. Also my buddy Bill does flight instruction and I do ground instruction so keep us in mind.
Thanks for the comment about the tribute video. Ya that was Sunday night and it was totally unplanned till the very last minute when Lance thought of it and everyone and everything else just fell into place. I shot the whole thing from the moment Lance started inflating till the flew out of sight and it was a real honor to be a part of that.
