- Hey there everyone, I'm Derrick Jones and I'm from Battle Creek, MI. I have been a pilot for just about 14 years, I fly in many competitions, fly for business, and for fun! I started crewing back when I was 9 with
Bill Murtoff when he came to Battle Creek with his family. I also took my first flight with Bill and was hooked. I got my student when I was 16, my private when I was 18 and commercial at age 20. In 1999 I created Michigan's winter balloon event known as the Holiday Balloon Fest. It started with just over 13 balloons and 15 sponsors in 1999 and we will have 75 balloons in this years event along with 165 sponsors. The event is held at Kellogg Community College, you may visit our website at www.holidayballoonfest.com, I also run a couple of small elite events known as
"Balloons Over Bavaria" located in Frankenmuth, MI with 15 balloons and another event in Frankenmuth, MI called "Hot Air Hounds" in May. I have contracted with Kellogg Company to fly "Tony The Tiger", The Gr-r-reat Tony Balloon; this is a new adventure in my life and thrilled to have one of the longest running balloon contracts in the country. I'm very active with our sport of ballooning! I'm a longtime member of the BFA and also SEMBA (Michigans balloon club). All logos are below.

US Nationals in Battle Creek, MI
Championship Director, Maury Sullivan, and local organizer, Derrick Jones, say they are ready for the fast-approaching US Nationals hosted by HBF, Inc. in Battle Creek, MI. Despite a very short lead time, both Maury and Derrick say they are prepared and ready to host sixty-five pilots in Cereal City. The Balloon Federation of America announced Tuesday its 2009 United States National Championship will be in August at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, rather than a site in Marshall.

Chuck L. Walz Fund
Thanks to our friends at Bank of America, Cameron Balloons (Andy Baird), the BFA (Sam Parks), Anderson County (Michelle Strange) and of course Cindy Walz and I; finally completed all documents necessary and certified the account today for the Chuck L.
