About Me:

Hello I am Nathan"Nate"Abel!! I grew up in Albuquerque and have been Hot Air Ballooning since I was 5yrs old. I currently live and fly in Fort Worth, TX. I am a Fixed Wing-Single/Multi-Instrument-Land-Airplane Pilot and hope soon to be a LTA-Hot Air Balloon Pilot!!!! I own a 1953 Beechcraft D-35 V-Tail Bonanza that sits in my living room of "The Hanger Del Casa". Yes I live in a Airplane Hanger and I Love It!!
I started Hot Air Ballooning with "Jamanda" when my Dad-John"PoPs"Abel crewed with them. Pops is now a Field Judge/Scoring Official for AIBF! If you can remember early 80s when Jamanda landed on a Sand Bar, It was my Mom- Barb Abel first flight, our crew lost them when they where doing splash and dashes(this is way before Cells phones and radios) they could not get out of the river so they let down on the sand bar due to low fuel and high lines, we new where they were but could not figure out how to get to them! We saw Channel 7 news helicopter circling around and then we saw it land behind the trees. The Helicopter then took off and landed right behind the chase truck and out pop the pilot and my mom! Needless to say my Mom got her first balloon ride and helicopter ride all in the same day!! We had to empty the tanks and strap them togeather to use those as rafts to float the Basket and envelope across the Rio Grand!! Then Hike it out through the trees. We finallly got back to the old Balloon Fiesta Park at like 4pm and we Partied Hard that day!!
I then crewed for a long time with Ron Caldwell in "Daisy-A-Day", then with David Spain in "Gopher Baroque" and for the past 13 years I have been with Sandy Graf with Breeze Balloons in "Up-or-Down" and "Monkey Business" I also work with Richard Sabin in "Night Breeze" once and awile!!!
I am Very Excited because after 30yrs of waiting my Brother-Jeff Abel and I have FINALLY bought a Balloon from Rainbow Ryders Pilot-Dan Dalen "Holodnoe Pivo" stands for Cold Beer and let me tell you if you ever need one of those just come to our cooler"Chilly Willy" and we will hook you up!!
