This was talking at a rally last year in Niagra County New York..near Niagra Falls..pilots from across the US attended the event...where do you live Timmy?
Nicki,
It was very good to finally meet you in person. I look forward to sharing the sky with you when you head up our way to fly with us this Spring.
The BSS Board of Directors will be deciding on a date for the Spring Flyoff and we will announce it within the next couple of weeks so keep your ears open and be ready for one hell of a party!
Until then, be safe!
Mike
Nicki, There is a safety seminar on March 14th if you want to go to it; it will be in Saratoga. Russ or Johnathan Blackburn are the people to get a hold of. I can help if you want though. We are also looking to fly the 3rd weekend in Feb. from Lake George if you want to join us.
Thanks for Tom's email address. I first met Tom back in the 70s when he was flying his homemade balloon "Friendship", as I recall he had a partner in the balloon named Rudy.
I plan on attending the homemade balloon fest in Amherst in May 2009, hope to see ya there. Also you might consider attending the Great Wellsville Balloon Rally.
Found your listing on Fred Williams site. You mentioned Tom Smith in your write up. I new Tom back in the 70s when we were among the few balloonists in NY state. He was a great supporter of the Great Wellsville Rally in those days and I enjoyed seeing him every year at the rally. I started the rally along with George Lewis and it is still going after 33 years. I would love to get in touch with Tom, would you be so kind as to send me his email address. I built my balloon, "BeachBall", Fred Williams helped me with the envelope. Fred now lives about 30 miles from me in Florida. A super guy! Ray Stevens
As it looks now, probably not until after the holidays when things settle down.
We were lucky enough to get some snow mixed with the ice so we didn't have as much trouble as Albany did.
Now I see we have another storm moving in. UGH! I hope this isn't going to be the pattern for this winter or it is going to be a long one.

By the way, the picture is that of a 24,000 cu ft Tetrahedron hopper balloon that is for Dave and other ballooning son Scott. We hope to hot air inflate it during the Christmas break.
Nickita,
I'm Fred Williams, Dave's dad. I started flying in 1972 and met Bill Hughes at that time. I also met Jim Sutherland and his partner, Rudy Swenker, who became partners with Tom Smith. I'm in Daytona Beach now and summer in NY.
I grew up in upstate New York and fell in love with ballooning by attending the annual Adirondack Balloon Festival. I now live in Dutchess County NY and enjoy flying in the Hudson Valley with my fellow ballooning friends - Bill Hughes, Brian/Tom Smith, Paul Ward and Rich Hamilton. I am a private pilot who enjoys sharing my love of ballooning with others, especially children. I do many charity events, school events, community days and local balloon festivals in my area. When I'm not in the air, I can be found in the classroom, teaching technology skills to elementary students. My philosophy...."Reach for the sky and let your dreams fly high!"
"The Sky's the Limit!"....special thanks to Steve Williams! Without you, my dreams of becoming a pilot would have never come true! <3
