About Me:
Living in Battle Creek when I was younger made it pretty easy to get involved in ballooning. My family's house is about a mile south of the airport so we've always had balloons flying over, taking off, or landing on our 60+ acres of land. I remember one of the first balloons to ever land on our property was one of the Four Seasons balloons "Sunny Boy". I will never forget how excited I was that day.

While I was attending Battle Creek Lakeview High School, one of my football coaches told our team about volunteering at the Balloon Festival and Air Show. Everyone I knew that volunteered helped out with parking, but i signed up to be a volunteer crew member. I helped crew for Norah Ormerod and the "Eyes of Horus" balloon. I crewed for her again the following year, and she asked if I knew of anyone else that wanted to get up at 4:30 am to help out, so i asked my Bro. I knew it was his dream to get involved with ballooning and someday become a pilot himself. This was his first opportunity and he never looked back from there.

I'm proud to say that I now have my private pilot license and I'm trying to save up some money to buy a used system that I can build my hours on. Hope to see you all in the air some day!

i see that you are looking for a system to buy. I know Rick Kerber has 1 for sale. He is selling his for $7000. So does Jeff Pestun, but some of the panels are bad. Jeff is selling his for$2,400.

Well even if you aren't going commercial sometimes it's nice to be able to take more than one person along. That's tough in a small balloon like a 65. There are going to be times in the summer where even a 77 is going to be small for taking even one person. Just for general purposes though I like 77's. They are a good compromise between a 90 for carrying 2 passengers and a 65 for competition. BTW looks like a relative is coming to th Des Moines area this weekend. It wouldn't hurt for him to stop by Rob Bartholomew in Carlisle to see what he has in stock for used balloons. I am not a huge Firefly fan but since it looks like you fly them Rob always seems to have stuff around. Or he may know someone that has a used one for sale.

well being as my only crew is a mother with a bum leg, that makes flying a little hard!! esp. since someone doesn't like to drive with a trailer....darn lift gate. oh well....as for the blog...eventually...I'll add some post from the trip to Iowa this weekend on it.

Hey Steve, how big of a guy are you and what type of flying do you intend to do. I only ask because I gather you are looking in the 60-80 range which is on the smallish side. OK for competition but not great for taking folks along. The good news is that those sizes tend to be cheaper because there is less of a market for them on the used market. Just curious.
