- Unlike most pilots my age, I didn't get into ballooning through my family. I had the fortune of becoming a balloonist at the age of 13 because I attended the media morning of a local event. My 8th grade science teacher offered us extra credit if we went out and watched the balloons that morning, and damn-it I was going to get the extra credit. The pilot, Gary Rominger, picked me to hold the crown and offered to take me up Sunday morning if I decided to come out. Well, needless to say I showed up Sunday morning, took that flight, and haven't looked back since.
I've had the help of all the local pilots around here, and because of their help, I'm now a pilot and enjoying every hot air-filled day.
I fly out of Clovis/Fresno, California. It's pretty easy flying, except that everytime I go up it seems like the spot I landed on last week has a house on it now. Oh well, it just means more of an adventure when it comes to landing.
