About Me:
A guy who grew up in a basket, surrounded by basket cases and likes to think he can control a bag of hot air when it counts.

When not pushing said bag of hot air around the sky he is directing others to sew balloons together, dreaming and designing new, improved and colourful bags of hot air for others to sew together and fly.

If not doing all that I am sailing, rock climbing, dancing, computer programing and now, with some luck, learning to fly gliders.

APEC airspace adventures..

Anyone reading the Sydney Morning Herald or watching the ABC news tonight will no doubt get the story about two balloons being forced down for straying into controlled airspace here in Sydney.

So here is the deal...It was me but we had approval until they told us we didn't.

Sunday monrning, a normal commercial flight with me in a 260 with 11pob… Continue

2007 Australian National Championship

The 2007 Australian Nationals are over and done with. Top three were Paul Gibbs, Sean Kavanagh (me!) and Edwin Michell. Andrew Robertson finished in fourth place which is worth mentioning as this is the same top four as the last Nationals and the same team we sent to Motegi for the 2006 Worlds.

The only change from the last Nationals was Paul and I swapping places for first this year. Finishing second to Paul is no shame, he is just damn good when on his game. Bring on the next National… Continue

What not to do to a new balloon..

Ahh, nothing like a deadline to make you do stupid things.

My dear old Dad, needing (wanting??) a new balloon has run into a small problem of weather and time in the lead up to the Australian National Championship. As such today we put up his brand new 77 in the poring rain for the test inflation so there would be time to get the CofA processed before the competition.

All the forecasts indicated we would have more wind and rain if we waited so this was as they say, as good as i… Continue

I found someone to crew for you on Sunday. She's about my size, same height, looks the same as me too, she's a bit of a ballooning tragic, lives in Camden, knows the area, knows how to fly a balloon. hmmmm have I given her away yet? :)

Sean, our company is interested in the inflight photo equipment we see alot of Kavanagh balloons equiped with, so without reinventing the wheel could you share a little expertise on this subject. We are interested in rigging, camera to use, pros and cons. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You
Brooke Owen

Hi Sean, congrats on the yacht race, so will you retire now with a 100% winning average? Love the photo, strange looking balloon in the background. On a serious note, need some advice on my burner, will you be in Leeton? Thanks Dirk
