About Me:
Boring old codger who's been flying balloons since 1972 - but I'm getting better at it! I even flew commercially for a couple of years. That cured me of commercial flying for life, so I only fly for fun now. I hold a UK PPL and an Australian PPC. I've been to 10 consecutive Canberra balloon meets but missed this year (2007). My daughter, Tem, was editor of Aeronotes for a while and lives in Sydney. I'm a semi-retired computer techie - been working with computers since 1960 - can you beat that?

Balloons & amateur radio

Are there any other balloon pilots/crew out there who are also radio amateurs/hams? I hold the call-sign G4NUX and haven't been active for quite a while except on 2m/70cm. I need an incentive to put some metal-work up at this relatively new QTH and get active again. If there was a fellow Aunty member or two with whom I could QSL that might get me shinning up ladders!

73 & 88 (as appropriate)

Hi Chris,
Well both Amanda and me have just accepted jobs at Virgin Blue and our start date is trhe 7th of July! So we had to pass up seans offer and he mentioned he is running late to finish Daryl's ppl of anyway. So it would have been a tight squeeze to get my hours anyway. The offer still stands though which is great. So lts going on with all that at the moment! How's your summer going over there! Also saw Tem in Manly whlie i was at work one day! Scared the shit out of her...
Cheers Cambo & Amanda

Thanks for your kind words Chris. It's a shame I didn't get a chance to have a chat with you as I am from Fairlight, Near Rye in East Sussex and it's always great to catch up with a fellow Brit. The weekend went far too quickly. Hopefully you'll time your next trip to Oz next Easter and join us again. Enjoy the rest of your stay - having family on the other side of the world can be a blessing and a curse can't it. Thank you so much for coming. Have a safe trip home. Cheers.

"Old Robbo"? I guess it's me - it certainly is my wife who makes the amazing BBQ sauces, so it must be me.
I'm notsure how I should take the "Old Robbo" bit - I kind of prefer "Robbo" and the other one as "Young Robbo". But I can just picture who said it - urrggh!

Nice to hear from you, Chris. I see you're planning a Leeton Easter. We're planning a Binalong Easter so maybe we won't catch up this time. However, we'll be there until the following weekend so if you happen to be passing by, you're welcome to call in.

Regards

Dear Chris,

We look forward to catching up with you when you get to Aus. Are you going to Leeton? Sean said you might be and flying one of the Kavanagh balloons. We are going to Leeton for the Easter weekend.
You don't need to bring that video. It was a riddle to work out what one you were talking about!
Best wishes to you both.

Hi Chris.
No plans at all. Looking forward to seeing you up here in the tropics. Spare room with proper bed this time is reserved for you in the new house, just say when.

Hi Chris,
Well I hear its sad news for balloonists over in the UK. I'm moving to the Gold Coast next week, so if you ever fancy a flight a little north of Sydney give us a bell. Hope you get in the air soon!!!!

G'day Chris, I will be watching the cricket tonight to see if the blimp crashes with the stress the operator is suffering at the moment. Heather sends love back. The mic is Bluetooth of course (obviously you aren't up with the latest tech geeky stuff !!) and Kz was a Borat moment. Hope the weather improves soon, Victor and I were discussing yesterday that England looks more like Holland at the moment, only less dykes.

Hi Chris, Yah, we had a great time crewing for Sean. Second place is great but of course first place is better! Maybe next time. Benalla was actually a really cool event. The town was the perfect size for an event and the locals loved the balloons. Even the mayor of Benalla came up to our dinner table one night to thank us for coming. We missed crewing for you this year. We even bought a new parachute man from Canada to chuck out of the balloon! Amanda threw him out after the key grab. We are definitely up for crewing when you come back! We will have the champers waiting! Cheers, Cambo and Amanda
